President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has commended the University of Ilorin when the management of the University was in Ghana, paying him a visit, Dailytrust reports.
Mahama said he applauds the University's achievement in academic excellence and their focus on the provision of students' welfare.
President Mahama said he had keenly monitored events at the university since October last year when he attended its 40th anniversary and 31st convocation ceremony.
A statement by the Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs of the University, Mr. Kunle Akogun, said Mahama sees as a remarkable privilege, his recent visit to the institution.

"Since my visit to Nigeria last October, I have taken time to constantly monitor the progress of the University of Ilorin. The university stands out as a very distinguished centre of learning.
"Since then, I have been following developments at the school and I have become an honorary member of the institution and we have created a partnership as I have become a part of Unilorin," Mahama said
President Mahama, who was in company of the Majority Leader of the Ghanaian Parliament, Hon. Alban Bagbin, said the invitation by the University of Ilorin also gave him an opportunity to visit his homeland, Offa, after his last visit in 1981.
